Chapter 4 Across the River

How in the world will we be able to cross?  Idalia wondered . Jade stared at the water and was mumbling to herself. And she thinks I am weird! Look at her talking to herself like a crazy lady.

“Guys, we need to get to a place where the river is wider,” Jade told them as she started to walk down stream. Idalia stayed toward the end of the group, which was the farthest she could get from Jade and Clay.
“Umm why do we need to get to a wider area of the river?” Questioned Idalia as they all trotted down river.
“The reason is obvious the river will be slower,” replied Jade after setting a piercing look at Idalia.
“Why,” Idalia asked in an intentionally annoying voice.
“Because the water will have more space to move, if it was narrower the water would be pushing to move,” Jade said trying to sound intelligent.
“But won’t there be,” she feigned a gasp for added effect, “ Leeches?!”
Idalia heard the audible groan from Jade “We’ll just move fast.”
“What if we uproot a rock and get a leech on the person behind us?”
“We’ll move side by side,” Jade quipped back.
“And if the slope to the other side can only let one animal up at a time?”
Idalia was quite enjoying the verbal brawl, it was nice to vent but have it look like innocent questions. While the two guys looked back and forth in confusion, the girls shot back and forth at each other. The guys eventually had enough of their squabble, at the same time.
“STOP YOUR BICKERING, IDIOTS!”
“Guys please stop fighting.”
All was silent for a moment before thunder rolled in,waking them from a daze. They continued on for some time, hours maybe it could have been a day for all Idalia knew. It was always cloudy and telling by the color of the clouds wasn’t always accurate, because in the stormier days all she could guess was that night when it could have  been day.  when will jade say to stop? Everyone was getting tired, when finally, ‘Let’s cross here!” Said Jade as she walked cautiously down the slope closely followed by Clay and Firus. Idalia took some prompting to go down.
“Okay,” Jade said, “we need to go one at a time.”
“Who goes first?” Questioned Idalia, right before Jade ran toward the opposite end of the river. Once she was around half-way, which took a minute, Clay ran out after her. Firus followed soon afterward trying to avoid the large splashes Clay mad when he landed. Idalia follow after to not be left behind. Idalia did not try to avoid the waves that Clay made when he landed, and got a face full of dirty water. She got disoriented and fell on her back, when she finally opened her eyes she saw the sun? No, it wasn't the sun. It was a big crystal looking thing, what? Something at the edge of her mind was tugging to get out then.
“IDALIA You’re getting pulled by the current,  get up NOW!” Idalia shot shot up and looked in Firus’ direction. Firus and everyone else was at the opposite bank and she was being pulled downriver, fast. Idalia flipped over and started to run up river which was going worse than expected, and she expected herself  to be doing pretty bad. She was slowly making her way against the current and sometimes the rocks under her paws slipped out from under her making her stumble and fall down, and still Firus,Jade and Mud just sat there waiting for her. When she finally got to the shore and dragged herself onto land Jade gave off a snide remark, “Well you’re finally here took you long enough.”
“Took me long enough?! I could’ve died!” Jade said nothing but simplified turned around and kept walking.
