Many animals were crowded in-front of a platform. It was drizzling or as most animals called it after many months of nonstop rain-a clear sky "It finally cleared up a little bit," commented a fox with black fur, hazel eyes and a strange sun mark on her forehead
Firus a red wolf sitting next to her replied "You can say that again it was raining Elephants and hippos last night!"
"Firus it's cats and dogs not whatever you just said"
“Well it was raining harder that those two animals.”
“Ahem” coughed a deep raspy voice.Everyone stopped talking and looked at the platform.
A big black wolf with a scar over his left eye came on to the platform. A small fox hurried after him.
“SILENCE” commanded the wolf. The crowd quickly looked up at him.
“It has not escaped my attention that it has been raining eleven months. So my deputy and I have decided what we shall do. We shall send animals to the rain-den” The wolf said calmly
Murmurs swept through the crowd. little snippets of what they said where
“Mountain”
“faraway”
“insane”
A voice shouted from the crowd “why do we need to go all the way to the rain den? It’s probably just the rainy season.”
“It’s been raining for nearly a year.No rainy season is that long.” The deputy replied bluntly.
“The leader of this village shall now pick the animals that are going to the rain den.”
The leader cleared his throat and said a single word “Idalia.”
Idalia’s breath was sucked out of her chest. She stopped “W-wh-wha-what?” she whispered words barely escaping her lips.
“Why me” she thought. She sat staring blankly in front of her. The chief called out a few other names but she just sat there looking forward wondering why her. Firus said to her after the chief finished “Hey I am going too!”
“Yay.” Idalia replied blankly
“Why aren’t you happy? That isn’t you.”
“Because I’m going to the rain den. DO you know how far that is!?”
“Um no heheh”
“my point exactly”
“Cheer up Idalia you're going on a ADVENTURE!”
“I don’t want to go on an adventure!”
“Well you're going any way Mrs.Pouty.”
“Ugh”
Then Idalia and Firus arrived at her den.
“Bye Firus”
Idalia padded into her humble abode. It was a small dark hut that had a bit of grass for a bed and a tiny heap of food mainly of nuts and berries, animals were scarce because of all the rain. Well she thought as she curled in her bed this is probably the last in a while (or forever) I will sleep here. She pondered why she was going a bit before her mind drifted into darkness.
